Musings of a Go Solo Traveller

Summer is over. But Manila landscape is still warm. The Tondo sub-district of Manila is filled with many houses which are residential building that evolved into shops and stores. The cool breeze can be felt in the evenings but this night is completely different as it is warm. He could not sleep. He has turned the pillows upside down many times and changed sleeping position many times but he could not sleep. He is thinking about his situation now. 

He has been denied two times in a row by the British Embassy Manila. Those refusals had devastated his plans – his noble and lofty plans of leaving to study and remain in the UK where, as they say, is a land of Milk and Money. For the past two weeks, he has scrapped and not entertained any thought of working there anymore. He decided to forget working as a caregiver and unlearn himself of the different skills gained from almost a year of Caregiver studies.  He wants to have a job – something that will affirm his self-proclaimed intelligence. He wants to prove that he is worth more than what situations are offering him.

He sat once more in front of the computer set. It’s midnight. The atmosphere is very quiet. It has become a conducive place for him to think clearly without the disturbance of any slight noise that could ruin his musings. He opened the computer once more and went directly to his email. For years, the email and the Jobstreet have been a site of his dream. For years, he has turned down all opportunities that came his way. From academic study opportunities with a full scholarship to the law studies and the possibility of a very lofty and promising career. Such opportunities could have made him more famous both academically and politically. The email showed a lot of job matches, rolled his eyes on the jobstreet notice and he glanced into the bottom part of the page. He read Secondary School teacher needed immediately. He read the job ad carefully and after a few seconds of analysis – an idea came to his mind. His mind raged and wants to shout – THIS IS IT! This is the work he is dreaming for. In fact, he has been dreaming of working abroad with any other job at any cost that would exclude his life and dignity. But this one is extraordinary. He could not be mistaken, he really likes the job. And he would not let that moment pass without getting the job right away. He then polished his resume once more. Ideas sparked his mind spontaneously as he rolled into the format of his cv. He paid attention to every detail and every word that might be seen by the evaluator. He put powerful words into his job experiences and made it sure that the resume is sincere and full packed with truth and job experiences. After fully satisfied with the content, he read it once more and gave a thumbs up for himself.

His interrupted sleep has turned into a busy working bee situation. His mind is surely working this time. He wants to make a very impressive application letter - one that sets a cut above the rest and out of the ordinary application letter-making.  He made it sure that he speaks of honesty and with sincerity of purpose. His thought is working actively, and his ideas are free-flowing while writing his letter. 

His mind smiled as he anticipates that the year or years ahead will be a GoSolo travel filled journey.
