Choosing a University for International Masters Studies

Background Many say that learning is continuous. Such learning could be either formal and informal, personal or interpersonal, or institutional. In the case of a searcher like me, aside from learning from everyday experience, I still value formal learning as it is the mainstream mode of learning and source of recognition in search for a better opportunity at this age so far. And, even if I have finished a non-thesis masters degree, I still desire for a more challenging level of academic pursuit and finally to quench my thirst for knowledge which at the back of my mind, appears to be vanity or a natural inclination of a human being in search for his own self. I have had tried applying for admission to foreign schools in the past, and I have applied for work visas too. Both those have been entrusted to agencies but neither was successful. The contrary happened when I searched for work personally and also processed the working visa the Go Solo way. My desire to learn and study ...

Barking up the wrong tree: A book reflection

Image
Barking up the wrong tree by Eric Barker C 2017 Harper Collins, USA The title is indeed catchy and I admit that I was a victim of its meaning. I bought it at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta while waiting for my flight to Pekanbaru on 6 February 2019. It was quite expensive. I was hesitant to read at first because the fonts are so small and gray colored. It was hard to read as it strains the eyes but I read it anyway. One thing that inhibits me from reading is the many stories that prolong the point of the author. I started reading it though on 5 March and finished reading it last 3 April 2019. The book starts with the question about what really produces success and ends with analogously the same question, What makes a successful life? And still saturated with some thoughts from the book I tried to answer it this way: A successful life has balanced activities, consistent effort to do productive work and wise choices, full of friendship, bonde...

Jogging from Jl Riau via Jl Paus, Jl Sembilang and Jembatan Siak IV (Sunday, 14 April 2019)

Image
Not mine: Culled from google map Wonderful! This is the third day in the third week that I jogged more than 12 kilometers! 14 April 2019. I started Jogging from Lily Spring Garden at 5:25 am. Then reached the same spot at 7:05 am. My usual routine is to jog 4 rounds around the subdivision within 20 minutes. But in order to speed up the removal of my tummy bulge, one of my resolutions is to jog at least once a week outside of the subdivision continuously.  This Sunday, I was able to wake up earlier. Had a brief prayer. Brought an ID with me which serves as my identity in case accident happens. I also brought my rosary because I plan to recite it while walking in case  I feel tired. So the jogging started. I jogged straight from my home in Jl Riau then turned left to Jl Yus Sudarso until I passed by Jembatan Leton Satu (1). It was still dark so I proceed with caution as most of the roads in Pekanbaru are not lighted.  I passed by Jembatan L...

Go Solo Backpacking Manila - Brunei - Kuala Lumpur - Jakarta - Pekanbaru

Image
MANILA TO BRUNEI Before entering Indonesia for a cultural visa, I took some time to travel from Manila to Brunei and Kuala Lumpur. I know that the teaching days even if under cultural visa will be very demanding again so I thought that this trip would be a form of recharging. Before the flight, I have already had crowdsourcing over Facebook asking if any of my friends are there. Fortunately, a person who happens to be a distant relative is working there. She referred me to another relative who is also her uncle. So I contacted him and got his address as it may be needed before my departure from the Philippines. And, my instinct was right, the address is needed to be written on a departure sheet prior to boarding. I was briefly asked by the immigration and finally got my exit visa from the Philippines on 28 August 2018. The travel time from Manila to Brunei is around 2 hours and 20 minutes: from 20:45 in Manila to 23:05 at Brunei International Airport. When I ar...
