VyDa Backpackers Hostel2: Hostel experience in HCM

Route: From bus station at the city center to VyDa Backpacking Hostel
Date: 30 June 2019
Mode: Walking
Duration: 3 hours
Fare: none
Difficulty: Backpack getting heavy, slight rain, wet roads, smelly areas
Highlight: Exploring the city center where everyday life is visible on the streets

I decide to check in at VyDa Backpacking Hostel. It is located at the city center in one of the residential streets. It has sleeper box rooms, cozy, convenient and cool. Much like in KL backpackers’ inn, it has a common room and a free coffee every morning but no free bread. The inn has maximized space as the beds are arranged vertically. Visitors are expected to be quiet all the time so as not to disturb the others.

I checked in at 13:30, paying 110,000 dong for a 24-hour stay. There is also a deposit needed and there are 2 options for the deposit – either we give the passport for deposit or give 200,000 dong. They can be claimed upon check out. The wifi is fast and free.

Because I was so tired from the walk and from interrupted sleep at the river the night before, I took all means to be comforted at the hostel. I took a bath immediately as my body feels so sticky and sweaty. I also feel my smell creeping all over my body. After taking a bath, I stayed at the hostel all day and all night. Slept, planned for the days ahead and simply lied down. I realized how good and refreshing it is to stay in a comfortable place sometimes. I felt this after yesterday’s street dwelling, roaming and finding nowhere to stay.

The day before, I already felt having headache and by that time, I felt my headache worsened. It was a half-head headache at the left which originates from my left eye until the back.

By that time, I have seen many tour options but I just cannot move immediately because I found nowhere to change my IDR and the banks are closed because it was weekend. (Saturday and Sunday).

That time I realized how important it is to plan the detail of travel ahead in order to maximize the places to be visited.

At night, before I slept, I saw in my online registration that my page in UCLouvain application for master’s is approved with comment, ‘Approved for Enrolment’. But I have not received an email of confirmation yet. I only realized that I need not expect an email because applicants who passed are notified via snail mail.
