Traveling from Can Tho to HCMC by bus

Route: Can Tho bus terminal to HCMC center
Date: 2 July 2019
Mode: Bus ride
Duration:  8:10 – 11:20 (3 hours 10 minutes/ Can Tho Bus Terminal – Ben xe mien tay bus terminal)
Fare: 150k dong
Difficulty: none
Highlight: convenience of travelling, not used to lying down position in travelling but is more convenient

After the walking tour around the Can Tho public market, I searched for a motor ride going to Can Tho bus terminal. When, I got a motor ride for only 40k dong, we then headed to the terminal. It took us roughly 15 minutes going there. I alighted at the gate of the bus station as motor bikes are not allowed inside.  There are many bus companies to HCM but I still choose Than Buroi because that was the one I rode when I went to Can Tho. Besides, I was thinking that I already know where their bus station in HCM is. I also saw Futa Bus Company but I did not attempt to inquire anymore.

The fare for this trip is 150k dong. The bus is a sleeper bus too but it is much better with video screen, charging port, and longer bed space. The bus left the station at 8:10. Along the way the conductor checked my ticket and slashed the smaller portion. He also asked me where to go in HCM and I told him – airport and he nodded on confirmation. I understand that they will be sending me there through another ride. There was 10 minutes stop-over at 10:00 along the way. I bought boiled banana for 10k and 2 pieces boiled egg for 12k.

The bus arrived at the Ben xe mien tay station in HCM at 11:20. I should not be alighting at that station because I observed that it was not yet the station of Than buroi but the conductors and drivers cannot answer me clearly. So, I opted to go down instead and look for the van to send me to airport. Unfortunately, I alighted at the wrong station so I waited for another 30 minutes for the service bus of Than buroi to send passengers to their terminal nearer to the city center. The ride is free for all passengers of the same bus company. While waiting, I bought a long bread for 15k. I realized then that Bien xe mien tay is the main station for all buses coming from the south of HCM. It is here where the buses to Can Tho drop passengers for dispatching to different parts of HCM city center.

When I reached Than buroi bus station, I asked if there is a service van to the airport but they cannot answer me well. So, I rode a Grab ride to Ham Ngi Street where the city-bus station going to the airport is located. The Grab ride was 21k. From the Ham Ngi bus stop I rode bus # 152 going to the airport for 5k dong. Waiting for the bus took longer than usual but once the bus arrived, the travel is very fast. It was around 15 minutes only. In fact it should be faster without traffic.
